Course Goals
This course surveys the social and cultural contexts of languages throughout the world. It examines the ways in which a human language reflects the ways of life and beliefs of its speakers, contrasted with extent of language's influence on culture. A wide variety of cultures and languages are examined.

LO-1Demonstrate familiarity with the theory of linguistic relativity and be able to articulate the potential flaws and strengths of the theory

LO-4Be able to give examples from other cultures of how language and culture have affected one another
